#2 Differentiating Between Digital Presence and Online Marketing

Hi everyone! In my last blog post, we began our chat about digital presence (or online brand presence, if you prefer that name). Today, we’ll delve a bit deeper into the differences between digital presence and online marketing.

I’ve observed that many entrepreneurs focus heavily on online marketing over the years. These folks often say, “We have a website already, isn’t that enough?”

The short answer is no. While online marketing tactics like ads, discounts and giveaways can offer quick returns on investment, it’s important to understand the difference between digital presence and online marketing.

Here's an example

Imagine you’re planning a trip to a new city. You’ve heard great things about it, but you don’t know much about the place. How do you find out more?

You might start by googling the city name and browsing through some websites. You’ll see photos, videos, reviews, and articles that give you a glimpse of what the city is like. That’s the city’s digital presence.

But what if you want to book a hotel, a flight, or a tour? You’ll need more than just information. You’ll need some guidance, some persuasion, some incentives. That’s where online marketing comes in.

Understanding the Overlap: Dual Sides of the Digital Coin

Online marketing is the process of attracting, engaging, and converting potential customers online. It uses tools like SEO, email marketing, social media ads, Google AdWords, and content marketing to drive traffic to your digital presence and convince them to take action.

So, digital presence and online marketing are two sides of the same coin. They work together to help you achieve your goals online. But they’re not the same thing.
